A few years back, I discovered a FABULOUS way to cook cabbage where it didn't stink up my kitchen. You know what I mean. Sometimes when cabbage is steamed over the stove, the smell is not really that appetizing. Enter Ms. Crock. Yes, I have referenced her a few times in past posts. She is one of my biggest helpers in the kitchen! Once I discovered the best recipe for cooking cabbage, in the Slow Cooker, the days of waiting until January 1st were long gone. We eat cabbage a few times a month, now. Yep, True Story! Not only is a YUMMY, it's also a negative calorie food so we can eat all we want. 😉
Look here at a past post to see THE BEST way to cook cabbage:
HAM is another one that we will eat all year. Many times I will buy a whole ham and slow bake it in the oven. It's SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO (I think that's enough O's 😆) Yummy! It's also great on the budget, as well. We can cook a whole ham, for dinner. Then the leftovers are divided for sandwich meat and diced for casseroles. My favorite way to bake a ham is 4 step simple process:
1. line a roasting pan with aluminum foil and place the ham cut side down.
2. brush Bayou Bourbon Glaze (from Tastefully Simple) all over the meat and then empty a can of crushed pineapple on top of it.
3. lift the foil from the sides and wrap the meat.
4. cook in a pre-heated 250 degree oven for 2-3 hours, until the inside is 160 degrees.
Do you have a favorite food, that's traditionally a "holiday food", which you eat anytime? If so, we'd love to hear about it in the comments. Be sure to include how you cook it!
